This Auckland City Art Gallery exhibition of Frances Hodgkins claimed to be the only attempt to have made a representative collection of her work at that time.
The exhibition took up her story in about 1916 when her aptitude for colour, line and design was already apparent.
The show ran at the same time as the exhibition of Japanese Contemporary Art.

This exhibition of 18 works commemorates the 50th anniversary of the death of Frances Hodgkins. Included with works from the Gallery's collection are ten works, never seen publicly in Christchurch before, which have been generously loaned from the British Council and British Government art collections.
