Cartouche of two figures bearing offerings to Nitocris

  • Stone

The carving on this stone relief shows the Nile river god Hapi bringing offerings to the reigning queen of Egypt, Nitocris, who is named in the bottom oval panel. Ancient Egyptians believed Hapi was responsible for the annual Nile floods, which were essential for agriculture, so this tribute to Nitocris emphasises her god-like status.
