Marc Chagall made this lithograph in November, 1964, at the end of the European autumn, but its bright floral bouquet and overflowing basket of pineapples and other fruits evoke, with a vivid sense of warmth and abundance, the memory of summers past – or perhaps a dream of those to come. Demonstrating the complexity and resonance for which Chagall became famous, this deftly drawn interior view also takes in a glimpse of the Parisian skyline.

If the question "what is the largest individual collection area numerically held by the Gallery?" was to be asked, the answer would have to be the Works on Paper collection, within which are 2145 original contemporary and historical prints, the earliest dating from the second half of the fifteenth century.
