Respected for his well-constructed, soft-toned, spacious landscapes, Cecil Kelly was drawn to coastal scenery. He and Annie Elizabeth Kelly, his wife and fellow artist, could often be found heading to the city’s foothills and setting up easels side-by-side. Both are known to have painted near-identical views of Te Ihutai / Avon-Heathcote Estuary, from Tauhinu Korokio / Mount Pleasant. (Te Wheke, 2020)
