Above is a vase of flowers from our own collection, but his best known work is probably 'The Defence Minister's telegram' in the Dunedin Public Art Gallery.

This painting, first shown in 1921, is not a self-portrait but draws on the artist's experience: both his sons had been killed at Gallipoli in 1915.
