Peripheral Relations

Behind the scenes

On a recent trip to Wellington I was lucky enough to visit a few galleries including the amazing exhibition, 'Peripheral Relations: Marcel Duchamp and New Zealand Art 1960-2011' on show at the Adam Gallery.

It's a show that is well worth the steep hike up the hill from Wellington's CBD and there in the front window of the gallery greeting visitors was Michael Parekowhai's My Sister, My Self (2006), it was like bumping into an old friend and made me realise how much I miss Christchurch Art Gallery's collection. Four of Andrew Drummond's Imperfect Atmospheres drawings from our collection were also on display.

And while I enjoyed much of the art, including the Marcel Duchamp works from Te Papa, seeing Julian Dashper's Untitled 6-25 (1997) from Dunedin Public Art Gallery's collection was a highlight. What a fantastic exhibition, we recommend that our blog readers visit it if they get the chance.
