New Gallery Space for Christchurch

Behind the scenes

Christchurch's visual artists have been doing it tough of late, but there's at least one bright spot on the horizon with the opening of a new gallery, Chambers@241, on 20 July.

The new gallery, located at 241 Moorhouse Avenue, will also include studio spaces and has been established by Warren Feeney and Ronald Mottram. It aims to contribute towards the redevelopment of Christchurch's inner city and to the well-being of the local arts community and has been supported by Creative New Zealand and CPIT's Faculty of Creative Industries. The opening show features the work of 18 Christchurch-based artists: Matt Akehurst, Graham Bennett, Denise Copland, Simon Edwards, Jason Greig, Sam Harrison, Kristin Hollis, Tony de Lautour, Cheryl Lucas, James Oram, Miranda Parkes, Sophie Scott, Grant Takle, Areta Wilkinson, Katie Thomas, Philip Trusttum, Tjalling de Vries and Martin Whitworth.
