Darryn George
Darryn George, a Christchurch artist of Pakeha and Ngapuhi descent, has created an image which fuses together contemporary abstract art with the colour scheme and decorative intensity of traditional Maori art. These t-shirts were designed especially by the artist to coincide with his Pulse exhibition held at the Christchurch Art Gallery (March-August 2008).

Mickey to Tiki
With typical humour, artist Dick Frizzell has taken an international icon - Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse - and very cleverly morphed it into a uniquely New Zealand icon - a Maori tiki. Traditionally carved in beautiful greenstone, the tiki is often worn as a pendant. The Internet and the artist! Tony de Lautour takes the Southern Alps - the spine of New Zealand's South Island - to make an entirely contemporary image. Bull
Michel Tuffery's bull sculpture - Povi Christkeke - is inspired by his love of the Pacific Islands. Using humour, Tuffery is making a strong social statement. The sculpture is made from flattened corned beef tins. Introduced by Europeans, corned beef quickly became part of the staple diet in the Pacific, causing a decline in fishing, cultivation and indigenous cooking skills. Tuffery lives in Wellington and is of Samoan, Tahitian and European descent. Unique to the Gallery.

4 Square Man
Almost every town in New Zealand once had a 'Four Square' store. Established in the 1920s, Four Square was a grocery buying co-operative. The '4 Square Man' was developed as part of an advertising campaign in the 1950s and the image appeared in every store. It's gone on to become a true Kiwi icon. Unique to the Gallery.
