CONFERENCE INTRODUCTION

The ICOM/CECA 2000 Conference was an important event in the city’s 150th anniversary celebrations, hosted by our key cultural institutions from 29 October until 2 November 2000.

Conference timing was chosen to best suit the needs of our Northern Hemisphere colleagues, and spring is one of the most attractive seasons in Christchurch. To complement the formal Conference there was a varied and vibrant social programme.

The theme and programme encompassed the widely differing cultures of the Pacific Rim. New Zealand’s first ICOM/CECA Conference was a remarkably enjoyable cultural experience in one of the most spectacular natural environments anywhere!

Museums Aotearoa, the professional association for all museums personnel in New Zealand, joined us in presenting this Conference.
