About the Friends of the Gallery

The Friends of the Art Gallery is a supporter organisation of over 1,500 members. It is a great way to be involved with the Gallery and to play an important role in supporting the arts in Christchurch.

The Friends organise a range of private and public events and they provide financial support to the Gallery, often focusing on some special need. The Friends also administer two annual art scholarships, recognising outstanding ability.

There are benefits to Friends, as well. These include:

• a subscription to the Gallery’s quarterly publication, Bulletin
• Friends-only Previews for new exhibitions, usually with a guest speaker
• invitations to selected exhibition openings and visits to local artists and private collections
• floor talks, tours and social functions
• reduced entry fees to exhibitions
• discounts at the Gallery Shop and Alchemy Café & Wine Bar
• discount on Christchurch Symphony concerts
