Welcome to Christchurch Art Gallery's eNewsletter. This fortnight's film screenings include two more works by Polish artist and filmmaker Lech Majewski and Lovely Rita: A Painter's Life directed by Gaylene Preston. Subjects to hand: Joanna Margaret Paul Drawing

This exhibition examines the artist's drawings in depth, demonstrating her exquisite graphic touch and ardent observation of the visual world.

Exhibition developed by Mahara Gallery Waikanae in association with the Joanna Margaret Paul Family Trust. Toured by Exhibition Services Ltd.

JS.02.03: "The Hedge"

This intriguing projection of stylised leaves by Christchurch artists Hannah and Aaron Beehre responds to voice or footsteps by falling in unexpected patterns.

Rita Angus: Life & Vision

Rita Angus is widely regarded as one of the leading New Zealand artists of the twentieth century. Rita Angus: Life & Vision features 143 works drawn from public and private collections throughout New Zealand. The exhibition reveals the full scope of Angus's work throughout her career.

Nature's Own Voice

Nature's Own Voice focuses on plein-air painters – artists who work outdoors in an attempt to record the varying effects of differing light and weather conditions through direct observation.

Keeping younger audiences in mind, and including a number of new works by contemporary artists, White on White is an exhibition brimming with the imaginative possibilities of white.

Wed 13 Courage and Conviction in the Works of Rita Angus

Peter Shaw, art writer and curator of the Fletcher Trust Collection, explores Rita Angus's powerful pacifist convictions, her isolated position as a conscientious objector, and the ways in which this influenced her art.

An autobiographical film opera with music, libretto and direction by Lech Majewski. Within their apartment, a father, mother and son bear the dulling yoke of an ordinary urban life. His mind and heart borne aloft by the cycle of the seasons and the images and music within him, the son transforms his cloistered existence into a richly poetic, emotional utopia.
