Event Highlights: 6 – 19 August
Welcome to the Christchurch Art Gallery eNewsletter. This fortnight, the Gallery celebrates the success of its stunning Bill Hammond publication Jingle Jangle Morning which recently won two major New Zealand book awards. Also, pay a visit this coming weekend to view the new exhibition Aus Australien, featuring outstanding printmaking examples from various Australian artists, and see the new range of contemporary works on show in the Gallery's permanent collection.

Christchurch Art Gallery's publication Jingle Jangle Morning, celebrating the work of Bill Hammond, has recently been awarded two major New Zealand book prizes.
The publication was named winner of the illustrative category of the Montana New Zealand Book Awards. This award followed the Book Publishers Association of New Zealand awards - where Jingle Jangle Morning won awards in the Best Cover and Best Illustrated categories; and then the ultimate – the Best Book award.
Jingle Jangle Morning traces the career and work of Bill Hammond and features more than 60 colour plates of his work. The book is available for purchase from the Gallery shop.

The launch of a unique literary collaboration between poets living in Christchurch and in Cuba. Enjoy readings from local poets in Spanish and English and experience images and music with a Cuban flavour. |
New Collection Works on Show!
Each year Christchurch Art Gallery refreshes and updates its permanent collection. August 2008 will see a change in its contemporary display. The new works include Judy Millar's amazing The Shooting Gallery, two large oil paintings by Bill Hammond and Ronnie van Hout's disturbing but mesmerising Ersatz (Sick Child) 2005. |

Opens 9 August
Experience outstanding examples of printmaking by eight leading Australian artists, working with a variety of techniques. Highlights include energised woodcuts by John Nixon and confrontational etchings by Mike Parr, two of Australia's foremost contemporary artists, and Jenny Watson's evocative Bottled Memories series.
