Event Highlights 9 - 22 July

Welcome to this fortnights edition of the Christchurch Art Gallery e-Newsletter. Two much-anticipated new exhibitions open at the Gallery on 18 July - Laurence Aberhart and Daniel Crooks: everywhere instantly. Daniel Crooks: everywhere instantly

'Once you've seen a Daniel Crooks DVD you're not likely to forget the experience,' writes art critic Edward Colless. Using his renowned 'timeslice' technique, Crooks transforms everyday sights such as trains and city streets into wide-screen meditations on time and motion.

Visitor

2 Millionth Visitor to the Gallery!

Tuesday 1st July saw the two millionth visitor through the doors of the Gallery. The milestone visitor was British tourist, John Bristow, who was escorting his five-year-old granddaughter, Everline Mahy, on her first trip to an art gallery. Bristow was presented with a certificate, vouchers, and a round of applause from Gallery staff.

This year, Māori Language Week celebrates te reo i te kāinga - Māori language in the home. What makes your own house not just a house but a home? Is it the look of the place and the things found inside it? Or is it the people who live there and the stories they tell about the place?

Christchurch Art Gallery celebrates Māori Language Week with a guide to four artworks offering four very different ideas of what it means to be 'at home' in Aotearoa New Zealand.
