Welcome to the Christchurch Art Gallery e-Newsletter. This fortnight features the beginning of a great programme of events for Matariki, the Māori New Year. Check out the Kapa Haka performance on the 8th June, and during the same weekend, the Children's Funky Whetu Workshop. Also of interest is Inez Crawford's Bouncy Marae, coming to the Gallery foyer on Queen's Birthday, free for children to bounce around on.

Curator Felicity Milburn introduces the documentary The Stones on my Tongue on artist Denis O'Connor, which covers the creation of his monumental sculpture The Gorse King.

Sun 8 Kapa Haka featuring Mareikura
2pm, Foyer, free
A uniquely Māori performing art in which dancing, singing, expression and movement share customs and tell ancient stories. Mareikura is a community-based Māori performing arts group whose members come from every major iwi in Aotearoa.
